The Great Smoky Mountain Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place on Saturday August 18, 2018. It happens at the Townsend Visitors Center in Townsend, TN. This year will be the second year the hot air balloon festival is being held in Townsend. Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success with over 10,000 people attending this fun event. The Townsend Visitors Center is located at 7906 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway. The hours for the festival will be from 3:00 p.m.until 9:00 p.m. Townsend is just 18 miles from Pigeon Forge, TN down US-321 South. It’s a nice curving scenic drive thru picturesque Wears Valley.
The Great Smoky Mountain Hot Air Balloon Festival will have a lot of different activities this year. Just some include fun activities for the kids, music and other live entertainment, crafts and crafters, a food truck court for food and drinks, and even wine tastings by Nine Lakes Wine Country. As the sun sets in the twilight of the evening there will be a balloon glow. The balloons are fired and their colors will glow in the dark of the night. This is sure to be a sight to see with the Great Smoky Mountains in the background!
New for this year’s hot air balloon festival will be tethered balloon rides. Those at the festival in Townsend will have the option to ride in a hot air balloon and enjoy the beautiful scenery from high in the sky (weather permitting).
Admission to the festival is free. Tickets are needed for the wine tasting ($10) and include a commemorative wine glass and six-compartment wine tote with purchase. Parking for the hot air balloon festival cost $20 online or $25 the day of the event August 18, 2018.
