Now that colder weather is here in the Great Smoky Mountains the Great Smoky Mountains National Park service has announced its winter operating schedule. Although the GSMNP is open everyday and year round some secondary roads, campgrounds, and some facilities do close in the winter. Operating hours for some visitor services will be cut back for the winter season.
The visitor centers Sugarlands in Gatlinburg, TN and Oconaluftee in Cherokee, NC will be open daily from 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. through December 1. Cades Cove Visitor Center located near the half way point on Cades Cove Loop Road will be open daily from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Clingmans Dome visitor contact station located at the Clingmans Dome trailhead, 7 miles off US-441 on the Clingmans Dome Road will be open daily, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Winter Hours After Dec. 1, 2013
- Sugarlands and Oconaluftee Visitor Center will be open daily from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
- Cades Cove from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
- Clingmans Dome will be closed.
