Great Smoky Mountains Railroad Fall Excursion

Take a ride through the mountains of North Carolina to see the spectacular mountain fall foliage show from a railroad car!. US Highway 441 a Nice Drive This Time of Year

US Highway 441 between Gatlinburg, TN and Cherokee, NC is a great drive this time of year. The highway goes right through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and connects North Carolina and Tennessee. With the trees turning green and the wild flowers blooming this is a great time to enjoy a ride through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Wildfire in Linville Gorge Spreading

The wildfire in western North Carolina mountains near Table Rock in the Linville Gorge area has grown to cover about 2,600 acres. The fire started more than a week ago and has been difficult to control. US Forest Service officials report the fire is about 40% contained. They also report the smoke from the wildfire could possible cause hazardous driving conditions on roadways in the area due to poor visibility. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Summer Rain May Effect Fall Foliage 2013 Show This Year

Fall Foliage 2013 Show and Rain Effects On Color All the rain in western North Carolina this summer may have an effect on the fall foliage 2013 show this autumn in the NC mountains. For a nice fall color show sunshine is needed, not rain. More rain in September would have a negative impact also. The weather just prior to the leaf change season is important. Bright sunshine in September would help make a more vibrant showing of colors.
