Winter Storm Remus Bringing Great Smoky Mountains Snow Again The Great Smoky Mountains snow that won’t end. The National Weather Service has issued  yet another winter weather advisory for the Great Smoky Mountains and surrounding areas of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. More snow is in the forecast from  Winter Storm Remus advancing toward the southeast United States. Great Smoky Mountains National Park Got Over 1 Million Visitors in 2014

2014 A Huge Year For Visitors and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park Last year was huge for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the park got over 10 million visitors. The busiest year was in 1999 with 10,284,000 visitors. Last year there were 10,099,000 visitors. There was also a higher number of campers in the campgrounds and backcountry camping sites. This was good news for the park since the government shutdown caused a significant loss of revenue in the 2012 year. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park Quarter Now Available

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarter is now available. The quarter is the 21st coin of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The program is a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites in the United States. Each year in the 12 year prpgram five new quarters with national sites depicted on the quarter.The United States Mint is issuing these quarters in the same order in which the honored national park or national site was first established. Great Smoky Mountains Are Home to a Diversity of Life

The Great Smoky Mountains is home to an amazing diversity of plants, animals, and invertebrates with over 17,000 species documented and possibly an additional 30,000-80,000 species. The diversity is the result of climate and mountain terrain. Elevation levels range from 875 to 6,643 feet. GSMNP Attendance Getting Back to Normal

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Attendance Attendance in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is getting back to normal this June after a slow start to the first 5 months in 2013 thanks to the reopening of Newfound Gap Road. Attendance up till June of this year were some of the lowest in years a park official states, but the month of June for 2013 is up more than 5% from last year. GSMNP attendance also affect tourism in nearby Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. The GSMNP is the most-visited park in the United States.
