The fall foliage predictions 2020 are in for this year’s annual show of fall colors in the Great Smoky Mountains. And the prediction is a good one. The prediction by the biologist and local experts predict nice color and a normal timeline for peak colors. A warm summer with plenty of rain and a cool September should result in a typical and colorful fall foliage season this year.
For the last couple of years, the fall foliage has been late in arriving by about 7-10 days. And the pop of color was not so spectacular. This year should follow more of a typical fall foliage timeline for the Great Smoky Mountains. With plenty of rain this past summer and this month and the recent cooler temperatures, the conditions are set for a very nice show of fall foliage! The biologists and fall color experts are predicting a nice showing of colors this autumn.
During September sunny days and cool nights make the perfect recipe. We have had both, sunny days and cool nights. Plus the weather trend for late September and into the middle of October trend toward cooler temperatures. Rain is in the forecast for this weekend and showers next week. No drought conditions to worry about so leaves shouldn’t be dropping off early. More leaves on the trees more color to enjoy.
With all the different elevations in and around the Great Smoky Mountains, peak colors will be happening somewhere during the 5-6 weeks of our fall foliage season. Peak colors happen first in the highest elevations. As the weeks go by colors spread down into the lower elevations.
